Nanosecond timescale optical inhomogeneous broadening of dye molecules in liquids at and near room temperature

چکیده
Time-resolved fluorescence depolarization measurements of the S& electronic absorption band of rhodamine B in glycerol and propylene glycol have been made at different excitation wavelengths. It was found that electronic excitation transport between the rhodamine B chromophores is dispersive in glycerol at room temperature and in propylene glycol below 250 K. This demonstrates inhomogeneous broadening of the dye absorption spectrum which persists for the time scale of the fluorescence lifetime (nanoseconds) or longer. Measurements of time-resolved emission spectra at a number of different excitation wavelengths and temperatures support this conclusion and suggest that the chromophore-solvent microenvironments causing inhomogeneous broadening are the same as those responsible for the dynamic Stokes shift about an excited chromophore.

A novel transient three-pulse scattering technique for measuring ultrafast dephasing times in condensed matter is analyzed using a perturbative solution of the density matrix equation. The advantages of this technique include subpulsewidth resolution, a clear distinction between homogeneous and inhomogeneous broadening, and sensitivity to spectral cross-relaxation. Its application to the case o...

Little is known about the microscopic mechanism of solvation dynamics in room-temperature ionic liquids, but experimental studies have found that the solvent response has both sub-picosecond and nanosecond timescale components. We present the results of molecular dynamics calculations of the time-resolved fluorescence response of a chromophore in an ionic liquid, and analyze the solute–solvent ...
متن کاملEvaluation of Crater Width in Nanosecond Laser Ablation of Ti in Liquids and the Effect of Light Absorption by Ablated Nano-Particles
Micro size craters were created by interaction of nanosecond laser beam with titanium target in liquid media. The dimension of crater i.e. depth and width is important in some applications such as micromachining. When the interaction occurs in liquid environment, the ablated materials from the target expand into the liquid. The ablated material can affect the interaction process if the ablated ...
متن کاملExcited state dynamics of chromophores in glasses and in photosynthetic proteins
The optical properties of molecules dissolved in glasses and ligated to proteins are very similar. The technique of three pulse stimulated photon echo peak shift is used to explore these properties. For dilute chromophores in a glass, a model of linear coupling to a harmonic bath combined with temperature-independent inhomogeneous broadening works well from 30 to 300 K. For concentrated chromop...

A study of the temperature dependence of the homogeneous linewidth and inhomogeneous broadening of a high-frequency vibrational transition of a polyatomic molecule in three molecular glass-forming liquids is presented. Picosecond infrared photon echo and pump–probe experiments were used to examine the dynamics that give rise to the vibrational line shape. The homogeneous vibrational linewidth o...
